USE OF HORTICULTURAL HALL? CONFERENCE TO BE HELD Proposals tor the establishment of a Little Theatre were t'aiien a step further at Monday night's meeting of the Lower Hutt City Council, when it was decided, on the motion of Cr. E. F. Rothwell, that the period of option the Council had taken out on the hall at the Delta Air Force Camp should be extended till October 30, in order that further negotiations may proceed for the use of the Horticultural Hall. The Mayor stated that the Returned Services Association had been approached regarding the Horticultural Hall, and had agreed to surrender its lease, on certain terms. The Horticultural Society's committee would consider the matter of letting the hall to the City Council for a term at a meeting this week, and would submit its recommendation to a general meeting of members next week. The Society was disposed to consider leasing the hall 'for a term up to ten years and making alterations to stage, etc. Hall's Central Position The Repertory Society, said the Mayor, expressed a preference for the Horticultural Hall on account of its central position, and the Competitions Society favoured it because it wanted a group of three halls. Only £ISOO was involved in the suggested outlay, which was only a fraction of the cost of the Delta hall. ■ The Mayor assured Cr. Horlor that the suitability of the Waterloo School Hall would be considered. Cr. H. F. Muir said that they favoured the Horticultural Hall because it was central to the- traffic flow. The Mayor and Cr. Rothwell were appointed to discuss the matter with the executive of the Horticultural Society.
