The petition in connection with the proposed change in the Lower Hutt Rating System was received by the City Council at its meeting on Monday last when the Mayor reported that the signatures totalled over 20 per cent of the ratepayers on the Roll. As it was the duty of the Council to accede to the request of the petitioners if such totalled 15 per cent of ratepayer#, it w*s now incumbent upon tke Council to proceed with a poll •* the question in not less than 21 days or more than 28 days. The most suitable date witbin those limits was Saturday( September 8, and the poll would be held on that day.
