City and Suburban Water Supply Board to inspect the board's area on a date to, be arranged. A letter was received from the Wellington Hospital Board stating that owing to ithe shortage of electric power and equipment it would not be possible to equip the Hutt Valley Hospital with an electric installation such "'as is proposed for the main hospital, and in order to expedite the matter the board had decided to erect a boiled house.— Council agreed to the suggestion, but asked that the smoke nuisance be reduced to a minimum.

The Mayor reporteti that - the grand stand loan, which was for a term of 20 years, will be wiped out in ten years. There are now only eight debenture holders left.

The reserves committee reported that a footpath access is in course of being laid out from the top road of Jubilee Park. This will enable visitors to enter at one side and pass right through the park.

The conductor of the Civic Band, Mr. Richards, who has joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force, was granted leave of absence for the duration of the war. Mr.. Gray was appointed to act in his absence.

The report on the activities of the band for the month pf- 'August stated that four held and all were well attended, an average of 30 members being present on each occasion. The band had also attended the Home $uard parades on Sunday and good attendances were recorded. The band had also assisted at the entertainment arranged by the ladies' committee of the Home Guard. It was decided to grant a permit to the Waiwhetu Plunket Society to erect a building on land granted by council in Trafalgar Square.

The librarian's report again showed a phenomenal increase In all branches, and was most favourably commented on by the chairman (Cr. E. |P, Hay).
