LOCAL BOY SCOUT DROWNED

Whilst fishing from Day's Bay wharf with two companions between 4 and 5 o'clock on Monday afternoon of last week, Douglas Sim Wilson, aged 12, of 9 Maire Street, fell into the water and was drowned. A companion Raised the alarm, and four men Immediately dived to search for the bqy, but were unsuccessful. Dragging operations under the supervision Constable R. D. Squire failed to locate the body. On Tuesday further ; attempts were made by Messrs. J. Dellabarea and Lowndes, who dragged from a dinghey and recovered the body near the wharf.

The father of the .deceased boy is Q.M.S. Wilson, of Waiouru Military Camp, and late of tijs local corps of the New Zealand National Reserve. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. H. E." K. Fry afc the mortuary and at the Taita Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, and was attended by a large number of friends and sympathisers. A company of Boy Scouts from the Ist Lower Hutt Troop formed a guard of honour, and were among the pall bearers. The National Military Reserve was represented by Lieuts. A. W. Treseder, W. Garrett, R.S.M. F. Ryan, Corporals H. E. Edwards and E. Gafney.
