COMEDY GALA PICNIC
I HUTT PARK—SATURDAY NEXT Laughter is tlie keynote of the comedy gala picnic to be held in the Hutt Park on Saturday next. A big and glorious picnic for everybody, with some of the most laughable items for their amusement, should attract "thousands of patrons. Every event will be novel a.nd laughable. The draught horse race with members of parliament, mayors and town clerks as jockeys, should prove the best attraction of the day. The riders have signified their intention of wearing the jockey's apparel. A female impersonators' race is another humorous event, and the penny farthing bicycle race should cause much amusement. A greasy pig chase and a race with lady jockeys will be novel and enjoyable. The draught horse derby will have genuine jockeys who will combine a pedestrian race with this horse event. They Will not be allowed such aids' to success as whips, spurs, saddles or bridles. There will be three genuine trotting "faces, including an old-time drivers' event, and these races will be under the supervision of officials of the Wellington Trotting Club. Several whippet races should prove popular. One of the high-lights will be a novelty wheelbarrow race, and in addition to the comedy sports there will be many other attractions. Hot water will be provided and milk can be purchased on the ground. An augmented bus service has been arranged from Petone, Eastbourne and Wellington. The Lower Hutt Municipal Band will be in attendance and a comedy band of 25 performers from the Woollen Mills will cause much merriment.
