PITCH PESTS.
BABBITS AND "BABBITS." i The report of the .principal of tho Hutt Valley High School (Mr. J. N. Millard) contains the following paragraph:— "Tho work on the grounds suffers to some extent from tw« pests that we find it hard to got rid of. Rabbits are causing a lot of trouble, ami practising' golfers >are also proving a nuisance. It is almost iroeomprehensihle, .but, nevertheless, true that some people have so little respect for othr pec<pl's property that they ehoo.se a "private- cricket ground to practise the art of divot carving. The rabbits have been giving trouble for years, and they see into be increasing in nunnbers. Unfortunately, they always burrow in any fresh grouwd and they are particular! attentive to the wickets whenever they have been top-dressed. Before the holidays they nuide a burrow several fee long near one of the wickets. I have asked the groundsman to set a trap for them, but rabbits that manage to survive in the middle of a populous borough are naturaly wily animals."
It was decided ,if leagl, to poison the rabbits and to (prosecute the others.
