WOBURN CROQUET CLUB.
The Woburn Croquet Club had a most enjoyable opening in spite o.f the inclement weather which prevails! Apologies were received from Mesdames Austin and Boocoek.
Mesdames Lambert, president, and Monies, secretary, received the guests amongst whom were Mesdames J. W. Andrews and J. Mitchell, patronesses of the club, Mesdames Gardner, O'Donneli and Caldow, officials of the Croquet Association, and Mrs. Bryant, of Manakau, also representatives of affiliated clubs and friends. Mrs. Lambert in a cordial speech welcomed the guests and introduced Mrs. Andrews, who in declaring the greens open spoke of the unkindness of the weather but hoped we would have plenty of sunshine during the season. Mrs. Gardner on behalf of the Association wished the club a very successful season. Each lady was presented with a charniing posy. Airs. Lambert, on behalf of the members, took this opportunity in bidding farewell to 'Airs. Hutcheson, who is leaving for Dunedin, to present to her a lovely piece of Dresden china and wished her every success in the future. Airs. Hutcheson thanked' the members for their kind thought and said she had spent a very happy two years in the Woburn Club. A delicious afternoon tea was seived under the direction of Airs. Roberts, tea convenor, the tables being beautifully decorated with flowers and fern in the Club's colours, red, blue and gold, by Airs. Alexander. During the afternoon elocutionary items were given by Alesdaiues Charles.worth and Fisher and were much appreciated by all. Indoor competitions were held; the results as follow^— Donkey, Airs. Alitchell; Ping Pong, Mrs. Denupsey; Darts, Airs. Corlett; Card game, Airs. J. August; Cake competition, Airs. F. Alartin.
