jMtB. WALTER NASH RETURNED. A DECISIVE VICTOBY. ' Although very little interest was taken during the femr weeks preceding the election, a record poll was recorded on Wednesday last when the electors returned the sitting member, Mr. Walter Nash (Labour), with a majority over his opponent, Mr. V. E. Jacobson (Nationalist) of 7269. Polling was phenomenal at some of the larger "booths and the poll was a larger oue than at the last election when there were more names on the roll. The first return came from Lawry Bay at 7.2-1 p.ui Mr Nash was leading from the start and at only one place (Day's Bay) did Mr Jacobson have a majority The final results were known shortly after 8 o'clock. The contest had been contested throughout in a most friendly maune/ and at its conclusion the two rivals went round the electorate together and spoke front the same platform. Mr. Nash thanked the electors for the confidence they had placej.l in him and congratulated Mr Jacobson on he sporting manner in which he had conducted the election. ' After congratulating Mr Nash on retaining the Hutt seat, Mr Jacobson thanked those who had supported him and said that although cm this occasion the electors did not wish him to represent them in Parliament, lie would try to serve them in some other ?phero, Ho culled for three cheers for his opponnt, which was reciprocated ou the tall of Mr Nash,
