A CHILDREN'S PANTOMIME.

ORIGINAL PRODUCTION. A most enjoyable children's pantomime was staged in King George Theatre last week by Mr. Asshetoa Harbcrd, assisted by Mr Kupert George, who was the musical director, and Mi->s Ainye Belhamine, who was responsible Tor the ballets. Under the humorous title of "Clawper (Snorter," this new and original pantomime with three acts and ten scenes, provided wholesome entertainment lor young and old and reflected the greatest credit on those responsible for its production. ' The lilting and catchy airs throughj out the entire programme supplied by Kupert George's small, but efficient orchestra. played no small part in the success of the children's efforts. The scenery, properties, masks, etc., would have done credit to any city production and were manufactured by Mr Kupert George. ' Costuming is vital to the success of any pantomime and it was very largely due to the minute attention to this important detail that the performance was so successful. ' The story is woven round the theme of Alice in Wonderland, and Leslie — played very naturally by Peter .Carter —falls asleep and in his dreams visi's all manner of enchanting glades where fairies dance and knights in armour slay the dragon. It would be difficult to individualise with such a large c««t. but among 'the outstanding performers noticed, "Puck" was delightfully portrayed by Phoebe Lawson, "Whit Kabbit" was well played by Helena Henderson. The Queen's page, Hundo W, and Merryheart, the Jester, were pleasingly portrayed by Albert, "n-1 Myrtle Hosie respectively. Pride of place must be awarded to Phoebe Lawson as the most versatile artiste as she appeared in five characters and excelled in each.

Charlie Dixon, as Clawper Snorter, radiated the true pantomime spirit and was 'responsible for most ot the fun. Francis Clout as the Herald, recited her lines clearly and carried out. '"he office with befitting dignity The liny tot, Cynthia Lawson, was charming as New Year.

Scene i>, representing oti nuwiry rhyme characters walking out of a book of children's stories, was the outstanding production of the evening. Humpty Dumpty was played by Baby Ivan Lawson sang and acted very cleverly in "X Love Sixpence" and Phoebe Lawson was winning as "The Little Girl with a' Curl."

In response to repeated requests 'lie. performance will be repeated on December 18.
