STREET LIGHTING.
(To the Editor), Sir, —Allow me to compliment you on your excellent leader in iast • week 's issue, drawing attention to the necessity for more light in our Main Street. As one who is particularly interested in business at the northern end of the town, I fully endorse all you say about the lack of street illuminations between Waterloo Road and Brunswick Street Many new business premises have sprung up in this neighbourhood since the present system of street lighting was installed and I think you are rendering a public service in drawing the attention of the auI thorities to the fact that they need to | revise the present lighting system. It is undoubtedly a fact, as you state, that good street lighting does attract business ; and I would like to see more attention given to the lighting in our neighbourhood. Do the authorities realise what a busy and dangerous corner exists at the junction of Brunswick Street and Ivlain Stieet? There have already been se/eral accidents there and I think it is high time a system of central lighting wsis j employed at this dangerous corner. I hope that my neighbours who, like roe, are crying out for "more light" will take further action in this matter so that the shopping area from Brunswick Street to the Bridge may be made' more attractive. —I am etc., SHOPKEEPER.
