ST. JAMES'S CHURCH CHOIR CONCERT.
Last Thursday evening under the direction of Mr. L. Felton and Mrs. H. E. Leighton, the members of St. James's Church Choir presented a very bright and attractive programme to a well filled hall. The opening number was a well executed pianoforte solo by Miss McBain. Mr. Felton's number "Nelson's Gone A-sailing' > and the '' Cornish Floral Dance" were delightfully rendered. Miss Carrick's remarkably rich contralto voice was heard to advantage in several fine selections, Several delightful elocutionary numbers by Mrs. Lowe were very much enjoyed. Miss M. Brown sang sweetly iii "Roses in' the Bud" and a dainty little song entitled '' To Let for a recall. The humourous sketch entitled "Gaspers" in which Miss M. Ellis acted with Messrs Walch and Yates, was very well done. The second half of the programme opened with a sketch entitled "Damages for Breach." Miss M. Ellis convulsed her audience with her clever impersonation of the dainty, though somewhat saucy and uncultured, tea room waitress. Miss Greenwood's part as the smart vulgar woman who gloated over her success in the police court where she had re/jovered damages for breach of promise was extremely well done, and Miss Hansell as her daughter, Nellie, acted a part that suited her admirably. Mr. Cross as the suffering defendant in an action for damages proved himself to be an actor of exceptional ability and j was thoroughly at home with his. part. The Misses Brown and Carrick and Messrs Jollands and Ward sang very nicely the old refrain "O Who Will O'er | the Downs." | The concluding sketch "Hiccoughs" i was produced by the Misses Hansell and Greenwood, together with Messrs Welch and Yates and they convulsed their audience with their clever acting. During the evening the choir, under the baton of Mr. Felton, the choirmaster, rendered three very tuneful' part songs and Miss Harte, who acted as accompanist enlivened the intervals with several fine pianoforte selections. The whole programme was voted a great success and will be repeated for the benefit of the Waiwhetu Church at an early date. Those looking for a good evening's entertainment should not miss the opportunity of judging for themselves and having a real good laugh.
