HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held on Monday night. Present Mayor (Mr W. T. Strand), Councillors A. J. Hobbs, A. Grierson, J. Mitchell, A. E. Carver, E. Waldie, W. G. Meldrum, and Sir A. Roberts.

The Prime Minister wrote acknowledging Council representations on the proposed Daylight Saving Bill and stating that they would receive careful consideration. —Received. In reply to Cr. Mcl drum the Mayor stated that the Council was not Tesponsible for the lighting of the Hutt road ramps on the Western side. | Cr. Waldie brought up the matter of placing name-plates on the streets of the new sub-divisions. The Engineer ■ stated that the name-plates wore now being prepared. The By-Laws Committee reported as follows: — Breaches of Building B-law.—Your Committee has to report having authorised prosecutions against the Hutt Development Company and Mr E. Tempest for commencing the erection of \ dwellings without first obtaining the necessary permits. Exemption of Matai Street.—Messrs Seaton, Sladden and Pavitt have applied for the exemption of Matai Street along the frontage of Section 163 Block VIII of the Hutt Valley Setlement, from the provisions of Section 117 of "The Public Works* Act" and yourvCommittee has to recommend that the necessary exemption be granted. The report was adopted. The Works Committee reported as follows: — Sanitary Pans, Epuni School.—The Epuni School Committee (7646) wrote asking if arrangements -could be made for the-fortnightly attendance to the sanitary pans at the Epuni School. Your Committee has to recommend the Council to undertake the work of emptying the twelve pans for the .sum of £20 per annum.

Tools and Plant. —The Borough Enf?;inoer reported that he had caused a tools and plant ledger to be opened,, and in order that this ledger might have a clean start he submitted a list of lost and worn out tools and asked for the Committee's sanction to the writing off. The necessary authority has been given by the Committee, which; ?has to report that the matter of tools and plant is now on a satisfactory basis. Sick Pay. —Your Committee regrets to report that two employees (Angus | and Fitzm&urice) have been ill, Angus still being in the hospital, and pending further enquiry as to Lodge memberi ship etc., your Committee has authorised that they be paid half pay in the meantime. The report was adopted.
