ELDERLY MAN FATALLY SHOT.
/ WEAPON RECOVERED FROM J NEARBY SECTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Shortly after 10.15 o'clock last evening an elderly man, John Hay, was found lying in a pool of blood outside the back door of his home at 14 Willard street, Spreydon, No gun was found alongside the body, but it is understood that the police recovered a shotgun from the section.
Mr. Kay, who was a retired sailmaker, lived with his wife and one son. About 10.15 o’clock last evening Mrs. Kay" was sitting in the front room when she heard a noise which she later described as “ something like an explo sion.” She called a neighbour named Reed from across the street, and he went to the area at the back of the house and found Mr. ivuy. Mr. Kay had been shot with a shotgun at the back of the head just above the top of the neck. Mr. Reed summoned an ambulance and Mr. Kay was rushed to hospital. ILwas dead when the ambulance arrived. The police were advised and immedi atclv began investigations.
SON CHARGED 'WITH MUA-DFR CHRISTCHURCH. Last Night. Ronald Leslie Kay, aged 40 years, was ,charged in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr. E. C. Lcvvoy, S.M., this morning with the murder of his fatnor, John Kay. He was not represented by counsel. Detective-Sergeant E. Holmes prosecuted, and said that the accused was arrested at 3.30 this morning. He asked for a remand until Monday, Marcn 28. The Magistrate assented to the remand The proceedings lasted barely one minute.
