NOT READY TO DISCUSS WAR DEBTS.

SAME OLD REPLY TO SAME OLD QUESTION (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) Received Thursday, 9.20 p.m. WASHINGTON, Dec. 11. Britain to-day notified the United States that she would not meet the war debt payment on December 15. The U.S. Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, in his notification of the sums due, had stated that the United States was ready to discuss any proposals Britain might desire to make in regard to the payment of the indebtedness. The British Ambassador, Sir Ronald Lindsay, in reply, stated that it did not appear to ms Majesty’s Government that ‘'circumstances have so changed since their Note of June 4, 1934, as to enable proposals to be put forward at the present time.” Sir Ronald Lindsay added that his Government “would be glad to resume ’ discussions whenevsr the situation warrants the hope that a satisfactory result might be reached.”
