RAILWAY REFRESHMENT ROOMS.
INCREASED PROFIT SHOWN. CHEAPER COUNTER LUNCH FROM SUNDAY NEXT. (By Telegraph—Press Association. *, WELLINGTON, Monday. Mr H. 11. Sterling states that, at its last meeting, the Government Railways Board gave full consideration to the result of the last financial year in the operation of the Department's refreshment branch. The nett result showed an increase in the profit on Hie year's work of £1247 as compared with the previous year, this having been achieved notwithstanding a drop of £12,728 in the revenue. The Board, Mr Sterling added, had given considerable thought to the question of further improvement. It was satisfied that very little was possible in the direction of a further reduction of costs, and gave consideration to the possibility of increasing the revenue by stimulation of business following some adjustment in prices. The recent experiment in the direction of reducing the charges for set meals had .been mnsuccessful, and the original charges had been restored. The Board had now decided to make a reduction in the charges of tea, coffee, cocoa and sandwiches. The alteration in priws operates from Sunday next.
