CYCLE ROAD RACE.
LEVIN TO WAIKANAE AND RETURN. S. JAMES FIRST AND FASTEST TIME. The race held under the auspices of the Levin Cycling Club on Saturday, from Levin to Waikanae and back, a total distance of about 48 miles, was contested by only five riders, as several of those who, usually compete were suffering' from influenza. The event was won by S. James, who also had the honour of establishing fastest time. The results were as under: — 1 , S. James (5J min.) 1 ; D. Thomas (9) 2 ; ."if. Barry ‘(7) - 3 ■ times: S. James, 2hrs. 29 min.; N. Barry 2hrs 32Jmin. A heavy south wind prevailed during the race, and the weather was bleak—circumstances which, combined' with the smallness of the field, put a severe test on the riders during the outward ‘journey.
