Blown to Atoms

MYSTERIOUS MUNITIONS EXPLOSIONS IN RUMANIA. Received Sunday, 9.50 p,m. BUCHAREST, Sept. 4. The commandant and sixteen men were blown to atoms —even their garments could not be discovered—in a series of mysterious munitions explosions in the fortress of Rudent on the outskirts of the capital. The worst explosion occurred among stored naval mines which wrecked many houses. A piece of shell penetrated the wall of a cobbler's workshop and cut off his left foot.
