OTAKI STATE SCHOOL.

COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Otald State School Committee -was held on Monday night, when there were present Dr.. Milne (chairman), Miss Lee, Messrs Mattson, Twist, Gear, Reynolds, Chat win, Nicolson and Bills (secretary).

Messrs Paterson and Jepson waited on the Committee preference to the turn sport of children from the llahui and Main North Road, the former stating that the settlers had held a meeting on the 3.lst inst., and had arrived at an amicable settlement, the two bodies having decided to amalgamate. A committee with a secretary had been elected and it was agreed that those would attend to the matter. Arrangements made, stated Mr. Paterson, were quite satisfactory. Mr. W. Jepson had, he. added, been appointed guarantor for main north road while Messrs Hughes ami Neylon would act as subguarantors for the Rahui section. Mrs. Garden would act as secretary. The chairman; If wo write to the secretary of the Board and tell him that you want the management of the service and ask him to address correspondence to Mrs. Garden will that bo alright?. An answer was received in the affirmative.

The secretary pointed out that there were arrears still owing, and Mr. Paterson stated that they would bo responsible for the May account. They had contracted with Mr. Baker to pay 21s per day for the conveyance of the children.

The chairman stated that he was very pleased that a satisfactory arrangement had been arrived at. The committee had had no desire to take on the work but had done so because the Board had addressed correspondence to them. As an amicable arrangement had been made the committee would have no hesitation in reporting to the Board that the settlors would now attend to the matter. The settlers would now be responsible and he would see that the Board addressed all 'correspondence to their committee. A letter was read from Mr. W. S. Dempsey, late headmaster, expressing appreciation at the Committee's letter school.—Received. A letter was road from the Education Board relative to the appointment of Mr. Bishop as headmaster and Miss McKinlay as assistant teacher to the school. There had been 27 applications for the headmastership and twelve for the position of assistant. The Schools Federation wrote stating that it desired that a meeting be hold at Otaki and that committees and parents from the adjoining districts be asked to attend. If the meeting was arranged the Executive officers of the Federation would attend and speak on matters of interest to schools generally.—lt was decided to do as suggested and agreed to arrange that a meeting be held at the Cosy sample-rooms on Wednesday, 22nd, at 8 p.m. The Board wrote thanking the committee for the interest shown in the delicate children recently sent to Otaki Health Camp. —Received. The chairman reported that a meeting relative to the A. and P. Calf Club had been hold but had not been largely attended, practically no farmers being present. The matter had been left to the Mayor. Accounts were presented and passed for payment. Messrs Mattson and Goar were appointed visiting members for the month.

It was reported that up to the present the children had not been provided with hot cocoa while the rooms had not been heated as early as desired.—lt was agreed that both matters be given immediate attention. It was stated that horses had been found wandering on the school grounds but whether they had been deliberately turned in or had wandered in on their own account was not known. It w r as decided to make necessary arrangements for the gates to be locked.
