The Otaki Bulb Show event is annually looked fofvvard to', by lovers of the narcissi, family, Avhere all the latest and best are'staged by the leading growers. This event is being held on the 2fith and avi 11 _merit an inspection by the general public. -Several valuable trophies will be, competed for in the various classes. A meeting of the Otaki Horticultural Society’s committee was held on Monday night when the resignation of Mr. j/B, Lee, as secretary, was received, Several members "expressed high appreciation of Mr Lee’s services, and for amount of time he had devoted in the interests of the iSoeiety. It decided to ask Mr. Witehell. to ; accept the position. The social held in the Parish Hall on Monday night proved that these fortnightly gatherings are still increasing in popularity. Besides a number of Otaki residents there were visitors from Manakau,' Te Horo, and other places on . the coast. The chief prizes Avcrc AA-on by Mrs. Moore and Mr. Bryant, and the consolation trophies by Mr. Atkins and Miss Burke Cook’s orchestra - supplied the music for the dance, while supper was served and fully appreciated. Mr. F*. G. Cray has been suddenly called to the South, and Avill not be present at to-morrow night’s meeting of the Otaki Fire Board. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Webster have decided to return to Otaki early in October. Their stay has been a most pleasant one. Mr. H. E. Baughau has resumed duties at the Otaki Post Office after relieving for several Aveeks at Waikanae. Mr, Steel has been appointed, to the latter office. . OTAKI CROQUET CLUB. The 'annual meeting of the Otaki Croquet Club Avas held at Mrs. Bills ’ residence yesterday afternoon Avhen there.was a fair muster of members. Mrs. Cook was in the chair. The secretary presented the report and balance of the last season’s work, also minutes of last year’s annual meeting. All the officers and committee were re-elected, while tAvo new members joined. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Bills for work done. Officers are as folloAvs: —Mrs. Olliver (chair); Mrs. Bills (secretary); Committee, Mesdames Wyatt, Cook, Smith, Bramley, Knight,. »Symonds (all reelected). Report. The following> the secretary’s report: — ‘‘Ladies, —I have much pleasure in presenting t,o you the annual report of Otaki Croquet Club for the season commencing September 28th, 1927, and ending May 9th, 1928. On the opening day avc . had visitors from the Municipal and Manakau greens, and Ave held the usual competitions. Play for the season AA T as much improved by old and new members. Early in the season ,we \A T ere challenged by the Manakau Club for the Bills and Moore brooches, but our members proved too good for them, however. They made a second trip and were successful in taking them to Manakau, but in the return match our members secured them by a very close score. Play for the Brandon brooches has been very keen by both “A” and ”B” players. We held the doubles tournament and our thanks are due to Mr. Freeman for his generous donation. We also held a singles tournament.. and for this our thanks are due to Mr. Palmer for his donation. We have to thank members who donated prizes and any who helped to make the season such .a successful one. During the season we held a competition afternoon for our own members for two fruit plates, donated by Mrs. J. Br.OAvn (Kuku). We held two euchre evenings and for these I am still holding funds. We also had an evening for Mrs. Cleland, avlio has left the district. The members and'friends of the club presented her with a pair of crystal vases. Our membership this season totals 14 playing members and one honorary member, and I am holding receipts from Mr. Wilmot for that number of members' subscriptions paid to him during the season. We have to thank boAvlers for their help to us during the season, also for the way they entertained all members and friends on the closing day.
