Gentlemen, —I have much pleasure in placing- before you a short report on the past year’s business embracing the season 19:27-28. It is perhaps fitting that mention should be made of the fact that the club shortly enters upon its 21st year of existence having been formed in December, 1908. Another important event in the club’s affairs was its formation into an incorporated society which was carried out duriug the year. The roll shows that there were 23 financial members and although a number of these were not active during the year, the attendances on the range during the season have been better than for the previous year. The season was opened on September 24th and continued until May. The weather generally was good only one day being lost for that reason. Nine trophies were competed for and were won by five members. Five members, completed the Champion Belt series, Rfra. V. Cottle being the winner, while six members completed the competition for the To Horo Challenge Cup, also avou by Rfm. Cottle. The club’s team was successful in retaining the Field Shield in the annual match and gained second place for the Fresh Food Cup on Easter Monday. Matches were fired against NgatiaAva (two) and Petone Rifle Clubs, all of which were lost. The return match, due to tne Rata Club, did not eventuate owing to the lateness of the season. The Horowhenua Rifle Association again held their annual meeting on our range and it is gratifying to know that the meeting Avas more successful in point of entries and financially than some of the previous ones. The annual ball was again a successful function and slioaved a-good profit to the funds. The committee appointed to attend to the running of entertainments and cure of the hall goncrhllhl, 'haA-e been very active and besides effecting improvements have been instrumental in cutting doAvn the liability on the building. The ladies’ committee haA'C been of great assistance in looking after the refreshment arrangements at euchre parties and in catering for visiting teams and thanks are also due to those who donated trophies and euchre prizes and otherwise assisted during the year. With the approach of a new season several repairs will be • necessary to the range, the flag poles and telephonic line requiring attention while mounds would bo a convenience at 500 and 600 yards firing points. Those members who require either new- guns or barrells from the Defence Stores may obtain latest price-list from the secretary, through whom all orders must be sent. Those members who have not been SAvorn in will be asked to attend to this important proceeding so that they may be placed on the roll. Only Mark VII ammunition will bo available in future from Defence Stores so members should consider .the question of prohibiting the use of any other. It is again desirable to stress the necessity of members attending regularly at the Aveekly shoots in order that the standard of shooting may be maintained and if possible improved. In conclusion I see no reason why the coming season should not be 6A T en more sm> cessful than last. It is in the hands of members themselves in the election of live members on the committees and and supporting those committees loyally when elected to make the season 1928-29 an enjoyable one.” Treasurer’s Report. “As treasurer I have to report that the financial position continues to be sound. Liabilities which stood at £7l at the start of the year, have been' reduced to £3'3„ and improvements to the A r alue of £l2 were also carried out. The assets are estimated at £3OO. Receipts during the year ending 31st August were £92 16s lOd, and expenaes £92 15s fid. With a credit balance brought forward from last year of £5 9s 7d the balance-sheet ndw shows a credit of. £5 11s. Profit from euchre parties was £26 0s 2d and fees for letting hall £l2 12s fid.—'W. .G. HAYWARD, Secretary and Treasurer. ”
