PERSONAL.

The Rev. D. Calder, of Dunedin was a visitor to Levin to-day.

Mr 11. Downes, gasworks manager at Foxton, has accepted the position of gas engineer for the Nelson works.

Mrs W. Davis, of Levin, has returned from Bulls, where she has been visiting for the past fortnight. Mrs J. E. Cruickslmnks, of New Plymouth, is the guest of Mrs Davis.

Misses Levett and Kebbell, of Bulls and Mrs Gordon Paul, of Wanganui who were returning from Wellington were visitors to Levin this morning. -

The Eev. J. D. McArthur, of Levin, will address a gathering of the Palmerston North Eotary Club on Monday, the title of his address being “Getting Down to Pacts.”

Messrs P. D. Clayton and J. C. Morrison, of the . head office of the Bank of Now Zealand, been on an official visit to Levin during the week, and were among the guests at the Grand Hotel.

The deailh occurred recently in Auckland of one of Levin’s pioneer settlers in the person of John Wright Gower, .aged 93. The late Mr Gower 'was a resident of the town from, the early days until about twelve years ago, his homestead being that now occupied by the Mayor (Mr T. Hobson) and his farm comprising about 200 acres immediately adjacent thereto. After retiring, Mr Gower took up his residence in Auckland. He was a .prominent member of the Methodist Church ami was to the fore in all good works. One of his sons is Mr B. G. Gower, of Poxr ton.
