“A TALE OF OLD JAPAN” AND MISCELLANEOUS CONCERT.

The programme to be submitted on r onday next at the Be Luxe Theatre the Levin Choral Society is sonieP varied from the usual opera, ’ occupies the whole pf the proOn this occasion the first the programme will be occun the pretty operetta, “A Tale id Japan” in which Misses Naom' .*halley (Palmerston North, sopr and Madge Freeman (Wellington, tralto), and Messrs Edgar Swain ( lington, tenor), and J. D. Brown (L vin, baritone), will have ample scope for their tnlents. The music of the operetta is entrancing, and the work is the most ambitious yet attempted by the Society. Several members of the Royal Web lington Choral Union are assisting with orchestral parts. Amongst these are Misses Dorothy Mills (leader)' and C. * Heiueman, first violins; Misses V. Eonayne, 11. Flaws, and V. Evans, second violins; and Miss Lilia Hill, ’cello. Mr J. W. Hayfield will be at the organ, and Miss Thelma Shaw, F.T.C.L., at the piano. In the second part of the programme Miss Naomi Whalley will sing the “Waltz Song” from “Tom Jones”; Mr Edgar Swain, “Che Gelida Manini,” from “La Boheme”; Miss Madge Freeman, “Softly Awakes My Heart,” from “Samson and Delilah”; and Mr J. D. Brown, “Pagan,” by Hermann Lohr.

Miss Naomi Whalley and Mr Edwin Dennis, A.R.C.M. (conductor of the Society), will sing the “Miserere’ ’ scene from “II Trovatore. ”

The part songs, “Oars.are Plashing Lightly, ” and “Ghosts of Little White Roses” will be given by the ladies of the Society, and the old favourite, “Comrades in Arms,” will be rendered by the gentlemen.

In the “Soldiers’ Chorus” from “Eaust, ” the whole strength of the Society will be heard. The performance will open with Sir Edward Elgar’s beautiful setting of “God Save the King,” in which Miss Whalley will take the solo part.
