EVENTS TN SHANNON' (Chronicled by our Re&idoui Ropresentatiri' > The outside world must have exaggerated ideas of the financial capabilities of Shannon. This week we are to have three shows in the Druids' Hall, and in addition to this a circus. We are "holding fairly strong," but this is too must for out prosperous little town. Mr Charles Dtinckle.v has taken the place of Mr Gundy, who was moved to Christchurch. Mr Dunckley is very popular with the people and in his place at the Post Oflire counter he is right in it. Mr Sparkcs has taken up his residence at the Mechanics Institute and Reading Room, where he will act as custodian. The Methodists will hold a mass meeting of the congregation on "Wednesday evening. The Riflo Club held a practice shooting match on Saturday—ranges 200, 000 and 600 yards. The three top scores were: Sutt-on 80, Richards 88 and Shearman 87. Next Saturday a team will shoot (ag.v'nst the other rifle clubs of the county) for the Fresh Food and Ice Coy's cup. The following are selected as Shannon's representatives: Captain Shephenson, Riflemen Law, Richards, Shearman, Woodmasa, B. Spencer, E. Spcncer and Sutton. The strike in the Gear Meat Company's works and the "Wellington Meat Company's works is felt over the district. All along the lino the companies have ordered the detraining of stock. It is fortunate feed is plentiful. The settlers are willing and cheerful, giving all possible aid to the meat companies affected. The Druids intend shortly to inaugurate a bicycle rond race. \ handsome prize will be offered, and it is hoped that entries will be drawn from Levin and further afield.
