Horowhenua County Council.
Tho following matters, in addition to those reported in Saturday's issue were dealt with at tho County Council on Saturday.
Councillor Skerman moved: That notice be given t-o all property owners between the Otaki bridge and Moutore house, whose hedges or trees overhang the county road, to have the same out back to heir property boundaries, otherwise the council would proceed with the work and the cost of the same would bo charged to such owners. Councillor Freeman seconded the motion, which was adopted. The matter of the erection of the Ngatiawa 'bridge was under consideration when it was mentioned that the old structure was dangerous, and that the new bridge should bo erected at once. It was proposed that the Hutt council should he interviewed, hut neither of the wardens of the riding could go for tho coming meeting. It was decided that notice be given to the Hutt County Council that it was the intent ion of the council to erect a bridge over the Ngatiawn creek in accordance with the plan and specifications which .had already heen submitted, and that tho Hutt county would be called upon to pay half of the cost of such bridgo over and above the amount received from the Government bv wnv of grant. The seal of the council was affixed to the debenture in respect of the Kimberlev bridge loan (£750), and the water race extension, Ohau, loan (£150). when the same were available and the treasurer be authorised to countersign the same. Councillor Richards moved, and Councillor Kebbcll seconded: That in the matter of clearing willows from the Hokio stream, near Mrs Hector Macdonald's residence, the council has no power t-o expend public money on private property, but should the ratepayers interested subscribe the necessary funds, estimated at ahout £.30 or £40, the council would he prepared to carry out the work; and that a copy of this resolution be sent to tho Chamber of Commerce. This was agreed to.
