CYCLE STANDS

Provision in Hastings Streets

“I have observed that this stand of 40 cycles has been completely filled on several occasions,” reported tho Borough Traffic Inspector (Mr. A. C. Crawford) at the meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening when stating that another cycle stand to hold 20 bicycles had been placed with the original stand of 20 on the corner of Heretaunga and King streets. The application of Mrs. Jessie McLeod fur permission to erect a stand to hold three bicycles at the corner ot Charles and Southampton streets was granted. The inspector suggested that another stand to hold 15 cycles be placed with the existing stand in front of the library, and this also was authorised. The question of a cycle stand being placed in front of the taxi stand in Russell street was raised, several of the councillors being of the opinion that this was a hardship on the taxi-drivers, and it was decided that the Mayor (Mr G. A. Maddison), and Councillors A. I. Rainbow and G. W. McCormick investigate the matter and report back to the council.
