PARKS AND RESERVES

Superintendent’s Monthly Review

GOOD WORK AT MANGAROA

“The pruning of the 1926 block is now completed, the men employed making an excellent job, as well as completing the work in good time,” said the Superintendent of Reserves (Mr. J. G. C. Mackenzie) when referring to the Mangaroa Forest Reserve in the course of his monthly review of the borough reserves to the council last evening. Tho Pepper street plots were lowered, the soil being thoroughly cultivated and planted with shrubs, he reported. Trees from these plots were planted at the Gordon road entrance to Ebbett Park where also four chains of hedge have been planted as shelter for the tennis courts.

In addition to the usual seasonal work at Cornwall Park the pools near Tomoana road were cleaned, repaired and altered, so as to obtain a better water display from the artesian wells. Donations of plants were received from Mr. G. W. Chadwick (Gordon road) and of birds from Mr. C. Dyel- - street) and Mr. Burns (Kouini street). A complaint regarding the landingplace at tho foot of the children’s slide in Cornwall Park was considered by the council. It was stated that the children hurt themselves when completing the slide on account of the hardness of the landing place. It was suggested that a sandbox bo provided and the matter was left to engineer and superintendent of i eserves.
