COUNCIL TO INSPECT
The gift to the Hastings Borough of the building used temporarily by the combined banks of Hastings in Market street following the earthquake of 1931 was confirmed at the meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening, when the manager of the Union Bank advised that the combined hanks had agreed to hand over to the council the building provided it was removed liom its present site and the area cleared up without cost to the banks.

Tho building inspector Mr C. Carroll, reported that fhe building, which is approximaie’y 48ft. by 60ft. when creited was built of tho best of timbers all being ic-w in good condition, the outside walls being corrugated galvanised iron and the internal linings of wallboard and three-ply wood. “If it were decided to erect part in any of the parks, it would be advisable to demolish the walls, cut the flooring to size of building required, and erect the building,” he said. An alternative would be to cut the walls and floors to size and re-erect. The building could also be cut into three parts, the roof demolished, jacked on to carrier and removed, one part by way of Heretaunga street and tho other two bv Market street.
“If it were decided to sell the building my estimate of the value would be £250,” he concluded.
The council is to make an inspection of the building on Friday morning of next week.
