CHURCH SERVICES

The services in the Havelock North Presbyterian Church will be taken by the Rev. J. H. Starnes, of Dannevirke, morning and evening in Havelock aud afternoon at Clive.

AU friends, both old aud new, are invited to attend the closing service of Pastor Robertson’s ministry in Hastings. This will take place m the new Buffalo Lodge Hall, Warren street, the now permanent address of the Apostolic Church, at 7 p.m. Sunday. Pastor Robertson is taking for his subject, "Certain Ministry tor Certain Men.” Mr Ray Collins will be heard on his piano-accordeun and Miss R. Collins will sing. All are assured of a pleasant and profitable time.

At the Baptist Church, Karamu road south, the preacher at both services on Sunday wilt be the Rev. C. B. Boggis and his subjects will be: morning, ‘The More Excellent Way,” and evening, “The One Mediator.” This will mark the commencement of the special week of Prayer and Self-Denial, in connection with the N.Z. Baptist Union and Missionary Society. It is hoped that with a full attendance a week of great inspiration will be launched. In the afternoon at 2.30 the Pukahu service will take place.

On Sunday evening the Rev. D. J. A. Shaw will resume his series of addresses on “The Rise and Development of the Christian Religion,” the subject tor the evening being, “The Reformation.” There will be an inter-denomina-

tional Bible Class rally in St. Andrew’s Church at 2.30 p.m. Because of that there will be no morning Bible classes. Relay service in St. John’s Hail, .tlahora, at 7 p in.

The Rev. J. Thompson, who has been a missionary in China for 24 years, will tell of his experiences and the growth of the Gospel in China in a special service on Sunday evening in the Hastings Methodist Church. The choir will sing “The Gloria.” The morning service wiU be an Anzac service, the address by the Rev. R. B. Gosnell being un “The Sacrifice of Others for Us.” the anthem “1 Will Pray the lather” doing rendered by the choir. These services will be found helpful and interesting and all are heartily invited to attend.

Gibbon the historian points out that hope in the return of Christ to reign on earth was “the reigning sentiment of orthodox believers” among the early Christians and “well adapted to the desires and apprehensions of mankind.” flow well this hope was founded in the writings of both Old and New Testaments will be shown in an address in the United Hall on Sunday night on the subject “The Second Coming of < hrist the Only Christian Hope.”

The meetings at the Salvation Army on Sunday next will be conducted by Adjutant lliseley. Bro. Scott will be In i narge of the Mhakatu outpost service at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend these interesting services.

At St. Matthew’s Church there will be Holv Communion to-morrow, Anzac Pay, at 8 a.m. and on Sunday at a m. and 12 noon. Children’s Church u ill be at 10 a m. Mattms and sermon In the vicar at 11 a.m. A special sheet will be used with hyuins of a national iliaracter. Holy baptisms will be at 3 p in. The Rev. K. Liggett will preach at evensong at 7 p.m. and the vicar will preach at ths evening service at St. James’s, Duke street. There will also be a service of llolv Communion at the Matora Hall at 7.15 a.m. Evensong and sermon at Parkvale will bo nt 7 p.m., also a service will be held i.t Kuukawa at 2.30 p.m.
