ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

Annual Report of Napier Sub-Centre YEAR’S ACTIVITIES The annual report of the Napier subcentre of the St. John Ambulance Association, shows that the year ending at the end of this month has been not only successful from a financial standpoint. but the position of the association in Napier has been fully consolidated as a result of the year’s work. In the report, which follows, thanks is given to the many helpers of the association in its work, and an account of the year’s activities is set forth. "The past year has been devoted to the steady work of consolidating our position, as a result of which it is felt that the work of the Order is now on a firm footing in Napier. x "During 1935 we conducted two courses each in first-aid and homenursing, the examinations revealing satisfactory results Our first course for 1.936, at present in progress, is home nursing, a preliminary home nursing class being attached to the senior class. “Wo are deeply indebted to the kind offices of Dr Doris L. Berry and Mrs C. Mcßeath, R.N., our efficient and untiring honorary lecturers in first-aid and home-nursing respectively; also to Or H. H. Barnett, who kindly examined our first-aid classes for us, and instructors N. Come and J. Puckett.

FINANCE. “While allowing a slight margin for emergency, the financial position generally is improved, a credit balance of a few pounds being in evidence. Thanks to the interest of the Napier Borough Council, wo are allowed the free use of a small but central room for our classes, which helps to keep us financially stable. "During the year the sum of £lO was received from Wellington Centre, and distributed in the form of orders for goods to needy returned soldiers. Mrs N. Corne and Mr R. J. Wallace are responsible for the successful completion of this work. “We are pleased to state that the sub-centre successfully sponsored the formation of the Napier Nursing Division late in 1935, and hope that that division will prosper. "A new service commenced early this year was the broadcasting of firstaid talks every third Monday evening, and we are indebted to the kind courtesy of Station 2ZH, and to the Wellington Centre for help in the preparation of notes. “The Airport Board has invited the sub-centre to examine and report on the Napier aerodrome first-aid kit. This is a service which we hope to extend to other firms. VISIT FROM GRAND PRIORY. The Napier sub-centre and Brigade I were honoured in January of this year by a visitation from Colonel J, 1,. Slee- [ man, Commissioner in Chief of the St. | John Ambulance Brigade Overseas, , who was accompanied by the Knight Commander for New Zealand, Co. Sir Heaton Rhodes; the Hospitallar, Mr C. J. Tunks; assistant commander

Wellington Centre, Mr W W. Dutton; I Mr C. Meachen; and Air S. E. Langstone. During the course of a largelyattend public meeting held in the sound-shell, Colonel bleeman presented certificates and awards to our members who had recently qualified in first-aid or home nursing. The visitation was the means of stimulating considerable public interest in the work of the Order. "We wish to extend our thanks to all helpers of the Association, the Press, for generous publicity, the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board, and the Napier Borough Council.”
