When new motorists appeared on the roads before last year no one knew they wero learners —until the crash had happened. But when 241,000 new motonsts appeared on the ronds during the past year, everyone knew thev wero learners —and the crashes didn't happen. The hearers of the letter L were careful. Older motorists gave them a wide margin of safety and so did pedestrians. The letter L was a joke a year ago. To-day it is recognised as one of the main reasons lor WX) fewer road deaths.
