WAIPAWA NEWS

Gymnastic Club Formed From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPAWA, April 22. A meeting was held in the vestry of St. John’£ Presbyterian Church, Waipawa, on Tuesday evening, for the purpose of discussing the project of forming a gymnastic club. The Rev. F. VV. Robertson presided over a fair attendance. Mr D. Chalmers, who was tbo prime mover in the project, outlined the objects and aims of the proposed club, and he detailed the arrangements that had been made up to the time of lhe meeting. It was unanimously decided by the meeting that a gymnastic club be formed and it was decided to name it the Waipawa Presbyterian Young Men’s Gymnastic Club. The club, however, has no intention of confining its activities to any church in particular, and it is non-sectarian in character. It was thought, however, that the club should have some official status. The constitution of the club was fully discussed by the meeting, and a set of rules was drawn up and fully debated upon. It was finally unanimously decided to adopt the rules and constitution. The election nf officers resulted ns follows: —President, Rev. F. W. Robertson; chairman, Mr D. Chalmers; secretary, Mr 11. A. Holt; treasurer, Mr J. W. Yates; committee: chairman, secretary, treasurer and Messrs R. Hutchings, H. Carter, and W. J. Miller. I

Leaders and instructors, Messrs D. Chalmers and R. Hutchings. The club has procured an empty shop in the main street as a gymnasium, and several members have already been busy in preparing mattresses, etc. Donations have been received of some gymnastic gear from sympathisers of the movement. It was decided to endeavour to have the evenings on Monday night. A vote of thanks to the chair closed a very enthusiastic meeting. The movement to form such a club in Waipawa is a commendable one and it would appear from the interest being taken in it at the present time that it is assured of a large and enthusiastic membership. are. xsu— ■ Mr mnd Mrs A. E. King have returned to Waipawa from a visit to Auckland.
