PEARLING RAIDS

Japanese Boats Off Northern Australia GOVERNMENT TO ACT (By Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright.) (Received 22, 10.55 a.m.) MELBOURNE, April 22. Referring to reports of the presence of 59 Japanese pearling schooners near Bathurst Island, the Minister of Customs, Mr. White, said that the Federal Government was determined to stop the illegal activities of Japanese craft within Australian waters.

A Darwin message says: Pearling crews state that the Japanese are working on a new and valuable find of shell. The Japanese boats are being tendered by two big vessels capable of carrying 300 tons of cargo. The Japanese diving boats unload their catch of shell daily into the big vessel so that, when captured, they will have practically no shell aboard.
