Man’s Duty to Defend Country LONDON, April 21. “In the whole history of Chris’iauity there lave been no finer Christian heroes than the soldiers,” declared Mr A. Duff Cooper in a speech at Man chester, in which he attacked those spreading abroad the theory that it was Contrary tc the Christian religion to tight for anything. He could fird no authority for the theory ’.n the Scriptures. “This is directly contrary to the whole history of the Church of England. The time will come when the preachers of such doctrines should be denounced for heresy end themselves reproved. “Church leaders should say boldly that It is a man’s duty to defend his country.” The speaker added that the European situation was graver than in 1914 and the stakes were higher. •‘The fate of empires is in the balance to-day. It is the fate of civilisation. ”
