WEDDING

De Gruchy—Graham Glo.-i nis autumn sunshine gleamed in St. Matthew’s Church, Hastings, this afternoon when Sheila Margaret, only daughter of Mr and Mrs John Graham, “Netherby,” Mangatahi, was a most beautiful bride at her marriage to Jack William, elder son of Mr and Mrs W. G. de Gruchy, Sydney. The church was g perfect picture with lovely vases of golden and bronze dahlias and tinted leaves arranged on the altar, and at each side ot the choir rails were huge howls or dahlias, chrysaiitlieniuins, cotoneaster berries and tinted maple leaves. On the guests’ pews were hung little green baskets of dahlias and begonias with a touch of blue, and sprays of maidenhair fern.

The Rev. C. E. Hyde officiated at the service and Mr C. B. Spinney played the hymns and wedding inarches, the hymns which were sung being ‘'The King of Love,” ”0 Perfect Love” and “Jerusalem.”

Pure white matelasse fashioned the gowii worn by the bride who entered the church with her lather. Simple classical lines were chosen lor the gowii, the skirt of which flared to form a very long train at the back. The corsage iu iront was finished with a flat bow and a delicate spray of orange blossom, while the back was softly cowled. The sleeves, cowled above the elbows, were tight-litting •to tho wrist and 'tore finished with tiny white buttons. She wore white sandals and her long veil ot white tulle was worn with a halo of orange blossom and fell gracefully to form a second train. A lovely armshower of white begonias, orchids and maidenhair fern was carried.

Marina green matelasse gowns were worn by the lour bridesmaids who were .Miss Margaret Mae Lean (the bride’s cousin), Miss Mary Rainbow, Miss Mariorie Clarkson (the bride’s cousin), and Miss Mary Wilson. The gowns were fashioned alike with plain fitting lines, the skirt forming a long train caught at the back with a true lover’s knot. The corsage was finished with a shaped V in front and the uecklme, square at the back, was finished with tiny buttons. A sash of /ihe same material was tied at one side and a cape of marina green tulle with shirred neckline and fiat bow in front was worn. Each maid wore matching shoes and iu the back of her hair was a bandeau of pink tinted rosebuds. Pink begonias, roses and fuchsia and maidenhair fern composed the bridesmaids’ bouquets, the flowers having been beautifully made by Miss Marjorie Ebbett. Their gifts from the bridegroom were hand-made beaded purses The best man was Mr Dick de Gruchy (the bridegroom’s brother), and the groomsmen were Messrs Rupert Gleudinning (Wairoa), Alistair Graham (the bride’s brother) and Michael White Messrs George Sanderson, John Paton and W. Krogh acted as ushers at the church.

After the ceremony a Tory bright and happy reception was held at the Hawke’s Bay Women’s Service Club. Mr and Mrs John Graham received the guests as they arrived, Mrs Graham wearing a handsome model ensemble ol Kenya Ted cloque with frock and capecoatee. The frock had a cowl neckline of beige, and hand-made flowers trimmed the corsage. A belt from each side ot the waist was clasped at the back with a silver buckle. She wore a brown velour hat with feathei mount and carried a bouquet of flame tinted begonias and fern Mrs W. G. de Gruchy, mother of the bridegroom, wore an ensemble of rust alghalaine laintly threaded with fawn and having a three-quarter coat and frock. She wore a spray of bright berries and her brown felt bat had a smartly shaped turret crown. The lounge 'was gay with bowls of pink shaded dahlias, rosebuds, carnanatious and chrysanthemums and similar flowers with begonias and cosmos were arranged m crystal vases and floating bowls on the tables for the wedding breakfast. Over the bridal table was suspended a lucky floral horseshoe and in the centre of the table was placed the beautiful threetiered wedding cake made and iced by Mrs B. Goldiincl. The only toast, toi the bride and bridegroom, was proposed by Dr. H. M. Wilson. Mr and Mrs Jack de Gruchy left later in the afternoon lor a motoring honeymoon in the north. Mrs de Gruchy travelled in an ensemble of English tweed in a brown and fawn mixture, with a long coat and skirt. She wore a brown suede windjammer and brown felt toque with a. flat stitched bow in front caught with a silver clasp. She wore brown suede gloves and shoes and she carried a beautiful peschaiiaki fur coat, a gift from her father.
