WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Twyford Meeting The Twyford Women’s Institute held a very happy birthday meeting in the schoolroom on the 4th instant, this being its sixth anniversary. The president, Miss McMichael, extended a hearty welcome to all, including visitors from Pukahu. Correspondence concerning the forthcoming meeting at Napier on the 24th was read and discussed. Mrs Circuitt and Miss Andersen were chosen us delegates to attend this gathering. A floral competition was won by Mrs Manson, with Miss Anderson second and Mrs McLeod third. The competition for mixed pickles resulted: Mrs Herbison 1, Mrs Masters 2. Mustard pickles: Mrs Manson 1, Mrs Tweedie 2. Mrs Manson also won the potatogrowing competition with 311ba. weight. The points prizes for the year were both won by Mrs Cameron. Entertainments were; Amusing April 1 stories; five-minute entertainment by members; competition, writing names of Hastings streets in five minutes. This latter competition was won by Mrs Orbell with 31 names. Hostesses for the day were Dlrs Herbison and Mrs Orbell. A special attraction was a beautiful birthday cake made by Mrs McLeod and iced by Mrs Herbison. The centre of the design was a very good representation of the institute badge. The sewing circle agreed to meet at Mrs Griffiths’s home on the 16fh instant, when Mrs Griffiths will teach Jacobean embroidery. All members are invited.
