Pakowhai Group

The Pakowhai Women’s Institute held its April meeting in the Church Hall, when there was a good attendance of members and several visitors. One new member was enrolled and a Press correspondent appointed. In the competition for the best bloom in the garden Mrs Cushing was first and Misses Boshier and Boyle (tied) second, Mesdames Collinge and Sykes (tied) third. Handkerchief from salt bag: Mrs Holmes 1, Mrs Houston 2, Mesdames Marsh, Russell and Mitchell (tied) 3. Mesdames Rigger and Horn judged both competitions. Demonstrations of tatting and hairpin work were closely followed by the members. A fine collection of goods was brought along as the Institute’s Apri, donation to the Hawke’s Bay Child ren’s Home. The hostesses for afternoon tea were Mesdames C. Bartie, Brown, Beaumont. Cushing, Houston and Miss Boshier.
