WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Havelock North Meeting Prior to the Havelock Woman’s Institute annual flower show, a full report of which has already appeared, a short business meeting was held. Remits to the forthcoming Federation Council meeting at Bay View were discussed, and Mrs. Norwell and Miss Strang were appointed delegates. To avoid clashing with this function, it was decided to hold the institute’s October meeting on Thursday October 10. A special appeal was made for gevetables for the Children’s Home, and members were reminded that October is the institute’s month for the annual collection of clothing, produce, groceries, etc., for the Home. Much interest was shown in the chairman’s gavel and block which is to be sent to Rattlesden Women’s Institute, Havelock North’s English “link.” The gavel is made from a totara knot, with honeysuckle handel, while the block—another totara knot —■ bears a small silver plate, suitably inscribed. At the conclusion of business, Mrs. Riggir, who was accompanied bv Mrs. Horn made a cordial little speech, congratulating members on the display of flowers and industries, and formally declaring the show open. Tea hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames G. and T Cook, Egan, Fraser, L. Hill and Lockyer, and Misses Fraser, F. Miller, McCorkindale and Ritchie.
