WAIPAWA ROCKERY

Council Discusses Complaint (Own Correspondent.) At last night’s meeting of the Waipawa Borough Council the Mayor, Mr. C. Q. E. Harker, intimated that he had received a complaint from the Public Trustee acting in the Berry Estate in connection with the rockery at the end of High street (Bryant’s corner), and that Mr. Bond, of the petrol station, had also seen him in connection with the same matter. The Mayor said that the position of the council in respect of the rockery had previously been considered, but no action had been thought necessary. He had made an inspection of the rockery and had to place before the council a proposal which had been made that the existing back wall should be used as a front wall, and that a new back wall be erected .and the rockery moved back; The overseer had made an inspection along these lines and estimated the cost of such a proposal at £37. The matter of the complaints made was discussed at some length, councillors being of the opinion that no alteration should be made, and that the expenditure of such a sum as estimated was certainly not waranted. On the motion of Crs. Furminger and McGregor it was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the finance committee with power to act if minor alterations only were required.
