GALE AT AUCKLAND
Craft Torn from Mooring* SHIP UNABLE TO SAIL <By Talecrat’h -P’—« *••ortatton ' AUCKLAND, Juno 28. The scow Torea and a motor launch fiom the cable ship Recorder were torn from their moorings in Wnitemata harbour by a high wind which swept over Auckland yesterday, and both craft were washed ashore. They were recovered without having suffered damage. The wind, which blew from the west, came at times in squalls of great force and was accompanied by frequent heavy showers. Conditions on the harbour were very rough. Many units of Auckland’s fleet of fishing launches were off the coast and out toward Great Barrier Island when the wind sprang up, and news was received that some had taken shelter. It was intended that the Recorder should sail for Norfolk Island to repair the Pacific cable in that locality, but owing to rough seas it was not possible to unshackle the vessel ’a mooring cables front the buoys. As ■ result the sailing was postponed until to-morrow. The rain was accompanied by hail, and marked the twenty-first day this month ou which ruin has fallen.
