ARBOR FIELD DAY
Outing at Rissington A. &P. GATHERING Some forty fanners and ladies arrived at Rissington on Saturday morning for the purpose of studying trees. The field day was one of a series arranged by Air R.. H. Tod, of Otane, and tho farmers were members of the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society. The party was met by Mr J. H. Absolom and conducted to the numerous plantations of the district. Many of the trees examined were of historical interest and were grand memorials of those old pioneers who have helped to make the Rissington valley the beauty spot it is. The effect of the recent earthquake was shown by a number of trees whose roots had been so severely wrenched that they had died. The various fine specimens around the old Rissington homestead site made interesting study. After lunch the more recent plantations were visited and notes on these were given by Mr Absolom and Mr Tod. The methods of planting and the utility of the timber were discussed. Altogether it was a most instructive day. At the close, a hearty vote of thanks was given to Messrs Absolom and Tod for the interesting talks and demonstrations given.
