HASTINGS HIGH SCHOOL
Board’s Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the Hastings High School Board was held last night. Present: Messrs. 18. J. W. Hallett (chairman), E. V. Simpson, F. J. Hull, F. 0. Rush-Munro, A. D. Ross, J. Wright, H. De Denne, the Rev. R. B. Waugh, the principal (Mr. W. Penlington) and the secretary (Mr. E. A. Murley). Committees were appointed as follow :— Finance: Messrs. Hallett, RushMunro, Hull and De Deune, Grounds: Messes, Hoss, Simpson, Wright and Waugh. Staff appointments: Messrs. Hallett, Simpson, Wright and Waugh. A grant for £ll 9/6 was received from the Director of Education for tho purchase of extra seating accommodation ou account of the increased attendance of pupils. Tho Hastings High School League wrote advising that it had decided to accept tho board’s offer to take over the responsibility for tho completion of tho erection of the assembly ball. A statement of expenditure incurred in connection with the building was submitted. It was decided that nothing further be done in connection with the building until tho Munster of Education had visited tho district, which was expected in tho near future. The principal reported that there had been considerable inconvenience in the science classes as the result of the change over from D.C. to A.O. current. The question was left in tlie hands of the grounds committee to make an inspection aud report to the next meeting of tho board. The principal was authorised to spend up to £2 on the purchase of trees and shrubs for planting in the grounds. A sub-committee of the Hastings Rugby Sub-Union piet the grounds committee with a view to increasing the dressing shed accommodation at the school. After discussion it was decided that the present shed be shifted to another site on the grounds, the sub-union undertaking to double the size of the shed.
Approval was given to an application by the principal to hold a school concert for the purpose of raising funds for the completion of the assembly hall. Tho principal submitted a short resume of important matters considered by tho secondary schools conference recently held in Wellington. The principal was thanked for his report. In his monthly report the principal stated that tho roll number for May averaged 483.6. Tho daily attendance was 447.5, or 92.5 per cent, of the roll number.
Accounts totalling £730 10/7 were passed for payment.
