WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Waipukurau Gathering
The June meeting of the Waipukurau Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon in the Masonic Hall, about 60 members and visitors being present. Mrs G. J. Bromell presided, the afternoon being a particularly bright and jolly one.
The meeting opened with the institute ode and aspiration, after which routine business was transacted, which included the appointing of delegates to attend the Dominion conference to be held in Auckland in July. Mrs Bromell and Miss N. Wilson were the appointed delegates. The musical circle gave a number of items, which included a duet by Mesdames T. Murray and Griffiths, which was well received.
The president introduced Mrs R. Tod, of Otane, who gave a most interesting and instructive talk’ to mothers and their duty to their children. Mrs Tod also introduced a roll call, “Why do I belong to the institute.’’ A number of the answers were very amusing.
The competition for the month, a handkerchief made from a salt bag, was won by Miss M. Peterson, her work being exquisite. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses.
