Meeting at Ongaonga

The June meeting of the Ongaonga Women’s Institute was held in the hall, there being a large attendance of members, presided over by Mrs Haldane. The meeting opened with the institute song. Business was dealt with in the usual manner.

The final papers of resolutions was received for the annual Dominion conference, to be held in Auckland in July. Mrs L. Carr is to attend as the Ongaonga delegate. A competition for puff pastry jam tarts was keenly competed for, the result being: Mrs H. Worsnap 1, Mrs 8. H. Robb 2, Mrs C. Beuck 3. A code message competition was won by Mrs G. Kittow and Mrs S. H. Robb (equal first), Mrs Walters second and Mrs Ed. Worsnap third. Mrs Cossar gave a most interesting demonstration on smocking, a vote of thanks being accorded her. While the hostesses were preparing afternoon tea, Mrs Walters, assisted by the schoolgirls, led community singing. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Beuck, Cram and Diamond, who served a dainty afternoon tea around a cheerful fire.
