BOROUGH ITEMS From Our Own Correspondent WAIPUKURAU, June 18. During the past month the following licences were issued by tho Waipukurau Borough Council and fees received:— Drivers licences 166, £4l 10/-; 19 heavy traffic licences, £129 16/3; two auctioneers’ licences, £77. WATER RETICULATION. For the month of May tho Waipukurau Borough Council’s centrifugal pump rau 161 J hours. The number of units of electricity used was 7497, and the estimated amount of water pumped was 3,224,000 gallons. For the corresponding period last year, tho pump ran 152. hours, using 7086 units of electricity, and pumped 3,040,000 gallons. UN EM PLO YE. 1) IVOR KERS. Men working on the Waipukurau Borough Council on the No 5 Scheme have been engaged in planting and staking trees in Holyrood terrace, cleaning growth from water-channels, weeding and tidying up reserves. A list of tho proposed works to be undertaken under this scheme has been forwarded to tho Unemployment Board through the local certifying officer, for approval. VISITING BOXERS. Last evening a number of boxing enthusiasts from I’orangahau visited the Waipukurau Boxing Club and Association, where they had several friendly spars with the club’s instructors, the visitors displaying no little promise and enthusiasm. In order to foster interest in boxing in the district, Messrs E. 'J', and T. Kuru have donated a silver challenge cup for competition between clubs in Waipukurau, Waipawa, and Porangahau. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs E. J. Findlay, Waipukurau, accompanied by her son, Mr J. Findlay, Napier, has returned from a holiday visit to Sydney. While in Sydney Mrs Findlay visited two of her sons who are in business there, one of whom returned to New Zealand with her on a holiday trip. At last night's meeting of the Waipukurau Borough Council, the town clerk, Mr 11. B. Smart, was accorded a vote of sympathy in the loss he had suffered through the recent death of his brother.
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Half was well filled on Monday evening for the variety entertainment staged by the Bible Class girls. The programme presented was most enjoyable, the items were exceedingly well chosen, and the audience showed its very keen appreciation by their hearty applause.
Mrs W. McKenzie, who bad trained the pupils, is to bo highly commended on her efforts, the costumes worn, the action songs, and dancing being all most delightful, reflecting much time and forethought on the part of the teacher.
