MOTOR CYCLIST FINED
Riding at Night Without Light
Arising out of a collision between a motor-cycle and a motor-lorry near Pakipaki on April 23, Edward William Girdwood McKenzie was charged at the Hastings Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr J Miller, S.M., with riding a motor-cycle at night with insufficient lights. Senior-Sergeant Macnamara told the Court that the defendant and a man named Saxby were each riding motorcycles from Wellington to Napier. Owing to his light being defective the defendant was following behind Saxby, who had a light on his machine. When near Pakipuki a collision occurred between the defendant and a motorlorry, it being alleged that the lorry was unligbted. Constable Goodsou, who was on the scene ahnsst immediately, found that one lamp on the lorry was still alight, while the other had been broken. McKenzie was in hospital for a month as the result of injuries received.
McKenzie, who did not umiear, pleaded guilty to the offence by letter. In view of the defendant having been in hospital for some time, His Worship convicted him and imposed a fine of 10/- with 10/- costs.
