FARMERS’ UNION

H.B. Provincial Branch

The annual conference of the Hawke’s Bay provincial district of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in Hastings this afternoon. The annual report aud balance-sheet were adopted. The following remits were to be discussed :—

That the Government be urged to provide more funds as maintenance of backblock roads, either from the taxes collected on benzine or other source.

That plump voting be made illegal at all local-bodv elections.

That this union protests against the lifting of the embargo on the importation of live stock from Great Britain. That an endeavour be made by the union to purchase farmers’ requirements at a cheaper rate than at present.
