EAST COAST RAILWAY
Much Interest Aroused
ATTENTION NECESSARY
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, May 16.
Acute interest has been aroused regarding the Success or otherwise of Mr. W. D. Lysnar’s negotiations with the Government for the acceptance of the terms offered by the London financial groups for the completion and operation of the Gisborne railway. Members of the District Railway Committee are much concerned owing to a report that the negotiations disclose unexpected difficulties due to the Government raising two issues affecting the ill. ..tation procedure which Mr. Lysnar claims should not become the stumbling block. Mr. J. Jackson, chairman of the District Railway Committee, has telegraphed the acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, as follows: —“Mr. Lysnlr has dis.cusst.d with me the issues debated in the conversations with you and the acting-Minister of Railways off the Gisborne-Napier line. I strongly support his contentions on the two issues raised on behalf of th*. Government, and concur in his statement that these issues do not affect the project from our point of view. Recognising that Mr. Forbes has numerous calls on his attention at Home, we nevertheless feel justified in claiming his prompt attention to secure finality on the London offer.”
