PLOUGHING CLUB

Meeting at Patangata

From Our Own Correspondent PATANGATA, May 10. The annual meeting of the Patangata, Elsthorpe, Omakere and Districts Ploughing Club was held at Patangata. when there was a good attendance. The president’s report, as under, was adopted:— In submitting the ninth annual report and statement of accounts for the year ending March 31, 1935, it gives us great pleasure to report having made a profit on the year’s working of £2l 0/9. Although we raised our members’ subscription to 7/6, we only had three resignations. There were 23 new members and we now have a total of 197 members. We were again fortunate in having a fine day and there was a big crowd present, who took a keen interest in all that was going on, and members were present from as far afield as Palmerston North. In the ploughing classes there was a falling off in entries. The tractor classes and Class A suffered most; Class B had a good entry and made quite a good show. The hogget classes drew a big entry from all over the district, and considering the winter, were a credit to the exhibitors. We wish to thank the ladies for again taking charge of all the catering, Mr Goring Johnston for placing his grounds at our disposal, the judges, stewards and competitors. The president congratulated members on the success of the last meeting. Mr E. Kittow was re-elected president, as also were the outgoing executive.

Mr W. A. Tod, who was re-elected secretary, was voted an honorarium and was also accorded a special vote of thanks. A vote of thanks was also accorded the ladies for their assistance In connection with the catering.

It was decided to hold the next ploughing meeting on Mr W. A. Couper’s property next to the polo ground on July 10, the programme being practically the same as last year.
