UNFAIR SUSPICIONS

Dental Association’s Aim CONTROL BY A COUNCIL (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Aug, 21. “Why wus it,” asked Dr. K. C. Morpeth in bis presidential address to the Dent.ul Association today, ‘‘that the flights of Hie dental profession auto tue realm of politics hud met so much suspicion and opposition'” “For totally undefined reasons the profession had been libcllously labelled u “close corporation,” and certain members of Parliament had consistently used that misnomer to the detriment of the association’s efforts. At present the dentists of New Ze,aland, both members and uou-mcin-hers of Um association, were working for the establish meut of a duulal council which would eflieiciitly contial the profession’s affairs. Allied professions in New Zealand had their governing councils, and the dental prolession in many parts of the world was similarly privileged. It, would be interesting to watch Iho progress of this new Bill in Parliament, said Dr. Morpeth. He did not think tlio integrity of the dental pro fession would once more bo assailed, for he ventured to predict that justice would prevail and that the profession, not the association, would bo given the right to control the affairs of its members. Dr. Morpeth also suggested that the association should bo given an annual sum of money to found a research scholarship, which could bo granted 1" cither a practitioner or graduate. Thu quality of the research work done al the Otago Dental School was excel lon f, but the work was limited by inadequate funds. ,
