PASSING OK A PIONEER I From Our Own Correspondent. TAKAPAL, August 17. A well known and much respected former resident of the Main Trunk district and earlier of the Danner irke district, Mr Samuel Running, passed away at his residence in Takapau on Thursday afternoon. Mr Running, who was a native oi the north ot England, came to New Zealand in the early days and took up land in the Dannevirke district, afterwards selling out and settling at laihape. The deceased gentleman, who was 82 year's of age, was a successful larmci and he possessed qualities of heart and mind that made him respected by all who knew him. Owing to the slump conditions hi had to carry on his Taihape property when ho had reached the allotted span but for the last few months he had been living in retirement at Takapau.
